Romper Love

Another one of my favorite things to wear in the Fall are rompers!

For some reason, I like wearing them more in the Fall than I do in any other season. Maybe because I like layering and layering and layering, and I like the long seamless look that rompers provide to break up all the many layers I put on top of it.

I also like how rompers are thigh length--I have short legs so I like to wear shorter length shorts/skirts, as I feel like it makes my legs look longer. However, I also do not want to look like I'm just walking out of the house wearing just a t-shirt...lol. So I like that rompers appropriately allow for this kind of look. And since they're shorts (as opposed to a skirt or dress), it keeps it casual in a dressy kind of way. It also allows me to run around and play with/pick up my kids without having to worry if my stuff is gonna hang out if I bend over!! LOL ;p

I found this romper earlier this season (around Sept or early Oct maybe?) at Forever 21. I had to get a Medium--the small wouldn't fit my hips. I like the fit around my waist, but not loving it at the top. It's loose and doesn't fit my arms or bust area so it makes it look waaay to big for me! But thanks to my favorite sweater (H&M from like 5 years ago--maternity gift from my bestie, thnx bee!), I was able to pull it all together and "hide" the looseness that's happening at the top. But don't get me wrong! The romper is really cute on its own! It's also 3/4 sleeve so very appropriate for this time of year (especially with the 60 degree weather we've been getting here on the east coast!). I would just try it before you buy it.

Can we talk about how good my photographer was doing on this day?! She was on top of her game. Lol! --thnx Kimbo :p

I need to shout out these boots really quick--because they haven't been getting enough attention from me. Lol! They were only $10 at DSW! Very cute and very comfy, but honestly, I do not wear them enough!

Side note--I've been living in this hat for the past few weeks now! I never thought I'd fall into the wide-brim fedora trend, but look at me now. Lol :p Never say never!

Hope Fall is treating you all well. :)

Until next time,

Holiday Green

One of my favorite colors this season has been dark green. I have never been a green kinda girl, but something about that color makes me feel classy and elegant. (Which is a hard feeling for me to come by nowadays as a mommy of two! So let me live.) I also love to wear this color over the holidays as a non-red holiday option. Not that I have anything against red...red is just your typical "holiday" color, aaaannd let's just say I like to go the non-traditional route sometimes. ;) #rebel (Not.)

Anyway, I had time this weekend (shocking!) and I thought I'd play around with this dark green top I bought from Express earlier this year. I guess you can say I did a form of the day-to-night concept with a dressy/day/work look, then a keep-it-casual look. Really I just couldn't make up my mind on how I wanted to style it, so I did all three! :p (Imagine how my mornings are like!) So here it is three different ways!

This is an easy wear-to-work outfit (holiday season or non-holiday season).....that will likely be on repeat over the next few months for me. The shirt is one of the Portofino shirts from Express. These dress shirts are so comfortable--I could buy them in every color! I've listed a few of my favorites at the bottom of this post. I have two, this dark green one and one in burnt orange and can pair them with anything (dress pants, jeans, skirts, etc.). Love em!

Last year I splurged a little bit and bought this faux fur vest from Francesca's and I LOVE it--but I don't wear it enough! So I feel like I need to get my money's worth and wear it as much as I can...but that just ain't happening...I just don't go to enough cool places to break out my faux fur. Lol! So anyway, I'm constantly on a hunt to find casual outfits that I can make using this vest. Yanno, working around my accessories. Nothing wrong with that, right?

Aaaand just in case the vest was "too much".... :p

By the way...this is the first time I did a photoshoot with my kids around. It wasn't easy trying to keep them busy and out of my photos! I broke a sweat!!
And I may or may not have let them eat a jar of cookies to stay still................

Alas--gotta have the gold!

Hope you enjoyed! I hope to post more non-red holiday looks for you soon, so stay tuned for that!

As promised...my fave portofino shirts out right now:

How to Become Beautiful

Let me guess what you’re thinking…"Conceited much?…" It’s okay, you can be honest. :) But this post isn’t about me talking about myself—I’m not about to go publish my own rendition of “Selfish.” ;) But I will talk a little bit about why everyone should become beautiful and how to do it.

This past weekend, I was privileged enough to attend an inspiring and empowering brunch for women. It was called the “I AM ME Brunch,” and it was hosted by a young female entrepreneur, Kristin “Krissy” Sutton, who aspires to combine her love for fashion with her expertise in the mental health profession, and ultimately reinvent Retail Therapy. The event brought women of all ages and backgrounds together to network with each other, become inspired, learn more about Krissy, her efforts and her brand…and eat. (Had to throw that in there. Food was bomb.) But the highlight of the event was the guest speaker—Christy Jones—a certified relationship and life coach. And that day, she decided to talk to us about being beautiful.

The unfortunate truth is only 2% of all women believe that they’re beautiful. Most women do not, and often want to change something about themselves. 2%!!!! I sat there, eyes wide, and listened her talk about that statistic, then I thought, sure, I think I’m beautiful, but there are definitely some things I want to change about myself.

She talked about life. She talked about love. Then she brought up something that really got me thinking. She asked us when did life break our hearts?

Kind of a loaded question right? When we think about heartbreak we think of relationships. Crying over old flames. But she was aiming to get something out of us that was much deeper than surface pain. What was the real reason we are hurt? Why do we keep our guard up in certain situations? Or with certain people? What is the real reason for why we don’t believe in ourselves?

For example, her answer was her weight. She was told at a very young age that she was not skinny. Nobody directly said “you’re fat” and they didn’t say anything in a mean way, but it was enough for her to create a lie in her head: Because she wasn’t skinny, she wasn’t beautiful.

Throughout her life, she struggled with her weight, and exhausted every effort to slim down in order to feel beautiful. She explained how her vision was tainted because everything she did was now evaluated through this “filter” that was created because of this lie. In other words, she would always look for evidence to support the lie: “I didn’t get that job because I was fat. He didn’t like me because he thinks I’m fat. I can’t ever do this or do that because of my weight.”

The idea that was coming to my mind was this: We as humans are relationship-oriented people. We look for relationships with other people and among things. When we make decisions, we want them to be justified. So when something happens to us that is out of our control, we automatically try to find ways to justify why it happened—even if that reason is a complete lie. And often it stems from a past experience that has affected us in a negative way, whether we realize it or not. Here’s how she summed it up:
  • We are born with a heart of truth
  • Then life breaks our heart
  • Disappointment sets in
  • A lie is sown
  • We look for evidence to support the lie
We need to stop that. So she then went into how to leave the life of pain:
  1. Confront the pain. Deliberately stand against it and decide to no longer let it affect you.
  2. Uncover the lie. Go deep into your subconscious and find out what is the root of your pain. What keeps talking you out of your confidence and telling you that you don’t deserve success and happiness?
  3. Heal your heart. Give yourself time to heal and focus on living a life without that lie in it.
  4. Identify your value and self-worth. Learn what makes you beautiful and remind yourself of it.
  5. Say yes to yourself. Let go of the negativity. Instead of succumbing to reasons why you can’t, create reasons for why you can.
Krissy’s brand, KayKode, was created around the thought that we literally wear our emotions on our sleeves. She takes into the account the proven fact that what you wear affects your mood, and strives to create pieces that boost confidence and promote healthy living. In her career, she has provided therapeutic services to patients with various mental illnesses, and she hopes to use those same skills to provide clients with personal consultations and create wearable pieces—Retail Therapy. Her “Kode of Ethics” are well-being, strength, empathy, growth, authenticity, and advocacy. It became very clear to me that her overall theme here is to help women see, feel (and wear!) their beauty—help them to become beautiful.

Furthermore, when I say "beautiful" I'm referring to more than just appearances. Become a beautiful mind, a beautiful artist, a beautiful friend, a more beautiful person. The key is to build your confidence to feel like a more beautiful you.

At the end of the day, the answer is very simple. To become beautiful, you have to tell yourself that you are beautiful. There is no one else on this Earth that can convince you except yourself. Believe it. Own it. Wear it. Werk it. ;p You are you, and I Am Me, and we are truly beautiful.

Tis the Season for White Pants

White pant season is back! Although I've never been a follower of it "ending" after Labor Day. I loooove white pants, especially white skinnies year-round! It's such a versatile piece to have, and you all know me and versatility. I no longer make the mistake of buying things I can just wear once! Unless it's a wedding dress...

Anywho, I'm so ready for spring/summer time and WARM WEATHER! Or as I like to call it, OFFICIAL white pant weather. :)

Please excuse my squinting. The sun was BEAMING that day! :)

Layers on Layers

One of my favorite ways to dress in the fall and early spring is to pile on the layers! It's so easy and effortless, and (almost) always comfortable! I dress the kids in layers a lot too, especially during the not-too-cold, but not-so-hot days. Here in MD, the weather and temperature fluctuates so much, you kinda always have to have an extra sweater or jacket on you, so this is easily one of my frequent go-to outfits...aside from t-shirts and sweatpants of course. ;)

I have to say...I am gonna miss boot season. Oversized sweaters and boots are such an easy way to camouflage the fat!! Guess it's time to start doing two-a-days at the gym!.....Maybe.

On another note, can we talk about how gah-orrrr-geous my photographer is?!! I'm hoping to have her as a guest blogger on here soon. :) Way to go, Kimbo.

Baby Boy Style: Playtime Plaid

The kids and I went to dinner with my parents last night. Jakey had also just got a fresh haircut (his first!) and I had just unpacked and washed a whole big box of 18 month clothes for him. So of course I had to play dress up! I will do this until my kids don't want me picking out their outfits anymore. HA! Here's what he wore:

Those eyes get me every time!!

And one more of baby boy's fresh first hair cut! (drumroll please)
You can see it good in this picture. We went to Sport Clips. Good service, very fast, and very patient with both my kids and me! I kept circling the barber taking pictures since it was his very first haircut. ;p A mom's gotta do what a mom's gotta do!

My Faux Fur Vest Obsession

I don't know what it is, but occasionally, I get these obsessions over particular fashion pieces or trends. Since last spring, my obsession has been over faux fur vests! I was literally searching stores everywhere  IN JULY looking for a faux fur vest for the fall. Of course I couldn't find one, and when soo many vests came out everywhere once September hit, it was hard finding one that fit me right. A few months into fall, I finally found one at Francesca's (loOoOve that store...). It was a little on the pricey side, but I had to have it. So I treated myself to an early Christmas present that month. :) So glad I did! What I love about faux fur vests is how versatile they are! You can pair them with a pair of dark skinny jeans and a striped or plaid shirt, or you can get fancy with it and wear it with leather pants and heels. I love pieces that can be worn multiple ways...I feel like you can get the most out of your money that way.

Here are a few inspirational looks I love:

*You can access all the links to these outfits on my Pinterest page in the board titled "On the Blog - Outfits"*

Unfortunately, I only have one picture of how I wore mine just one time. But I've dressed it up and wore it casually before and love both looks (and the warmth)! ;)
